Why Navigate?
Leadership Nexus held its first Navigate type conference in April 2008 as a conference called "The Emerging Church for the Existing Church. This first conference was a tremendous success, with everyone wishing they could stay longer, dig deeper and fellowship longer. Through out the course of the next year we talked with hundreds of church leaders looking for help to understand, comprehend, connect with and share in the story of the cultural shift and spiritual movement within this changing, postmodern culture.
We set out to develop a new event.
We began to talk with church leaders and emerging thinkers, dialogue with people seeking to discern where God is leading us in this postmodern culture and while listening to the general pulse of our world embrace the call on our hearts to discern how God is asking us to further the Kingdom of God in todays world. Through this time of discernment, we felt God bring the image of navigating and exploring new worlds to our hearts. We realized that each of us are looking to understand, engage and reach the culture in which we live for the Kingdom. We realized that all of us are seeking to find our way as the Church today, young and old alike, emerging and existing, modern and postmodern.
God is working diligently in the Existing and Emerging Church, to spread His hope for the world. However, when we use these terms some can feel alienated or polarized into one camp or the another. Where do the leaders go who consider themselves emerging/missional minded but are still deeply connected to the established church?
We all have the same desire - to further the Kingdom through by living in the Way of Christ in our world today. But there is no single roadmap to understanding todays culture and the Church within it. And we, at Leadership Nexus, want to help empower the Church to navigate these waters of changing culture...
And so all of us - emerging, established, missional, mainline - work together to explore and navigate the waters of changing culture.
Together we NAVIGATE
Leadership Nexus
Leadership Nexus exists to empower the Church to be more effective
in proclaiming the gospel to the world!
The definition of nexus is "a link, a means of connection, a core or center."
That is exactly what we hope to be - a link and a central core to connect church leaders through training events, support and communication for the purpose of being more effective, more innovative and doing the work of the Kingdom of God with a greater sense of spirituality and strength.
Dr. Robert Pierson founded Leadership Nexus out of his experience of providing leadership for the church in various denominational and ecumenical organizations for more than 40 years, which includes serving as senior pastor of a large United Methodist Church for over 30 years. His years of ministry and service to the church as a whole allows him to mobilize the best positive resources to help the church do the work of Jesus Christ.
Leadership Nexus offers:
- Major training events, both national and local
- Consulting with local churches, pastors and leaders or denominational groupings
- Needs-Based Evangelism workshops and training, based on Dr. Piersons book by the same name
- Other workshops and training for local churches in the areas of
- Prayer and Spiritual Life Training
- Building Successful Relationships
- Singles Ministry
- The Power of Purpose for Individuals
With the support of the Church Leadership Training Foundation, a non-profit organization also founded by Dr. Pierson, Leadership Nexus can also provide resources to clergy, staff, and lay leaders in churches of all sizes who might need financial assistance to participate in training events and consultations.
